MEET MICHAEL JOHNSTON
Michael is running in this race to protect and expand our civil rights, restore and improve our education system, protect our social safety net, and return accountability and transparency to Ohio government. Michael currently serves as the Secretary for the Central College Community Development Authority, to which he was elected in December 2012.
Michael was born and raised in southwestern Pennsylvania and has lived with his husband in northeast Columbus since 2003. Michael and his younger brother were raised by his mother who is a teacher at a Catholic school and his father who is an accountant. Michael actively participated in the nationally renowned Norwin High School marching band, high school track and field team, and holds a 2nd degree black belt in Tang Soo Do. Michael was also involved in numerous church activities including Chancel Choir, mentoring youth, and Bell Choir at the First Presbyterian Church in Irwin.
In 1997, Michael moved to Columbus, Ohio to attend The Ohio State University as an engineering undergraduate student. After gaining significant academic and real world experience, Michael completed school at DeVry and graduated in October 2004 with a BS in Computer Information Systems. Michael went on to earn a Masters in Project Management and a Masters in Public Administration from the Keller Graduate School of Management.
Michael's work experience includes a wide variety of job sectors including banking, ecommerce, manufacturing and distribution, auditing, and information technology along with being actively involved in state and local politics since 2007. Michael currently earns a living doing professional business writing and owns his own small business as a personal trainer.
